Well gentlemen it has been approximately 3 weeks since we have made our annual trek to Myrtle Beach, so I thought I would share some highlights. To start a majority of us left Virginia Beach early on Wednesday morning to get the party started, but a few were bribed into staying behind until later that evening. I’m not mentioning any names Chuckie, but thanks to Don and Timmy they arrived in time for the Match Play event.
March 21
As usual the golfers all gather in room 523 for the gathering of materials and welcoming drinks. This turned into quite a display of survivability of the fittest, especially the Dilly Dilly Man himself. He was quite the hostess by making, serving and maintaining complete control of all his senses until the moonshine kicked in then all his civility and suavity disappeared. Mike Simms thought he would never arrive in the promised land due to a snow storm in the eastern part of the country and countless number of delays. He was like a caged animal when he arrived after a 7 and half hour delay in a small Latrobe, Pa. airport, but none the less he was glad to be back with the Bubba’s and WALG’S.
The Match Play event went off without a hitch. It appeared that everyone had a good time and the teams were evenly matched. The Targaryen’s defeated the Lannister’s 8 ½ to 6 ½ to claim the Iron Throne Cup:
Eddie & Slav 1 split 1 with Travis and Mike B.
Don & Joe B. 1 ½ dismantled ½ Bennie & Irish
Dan M & Tiz 2 decapitated 0 Lee T. & Roger W.
Chuckie & Rick 1 split with 1 Chuck B. & Fran F.
John K & Dennis O. 0 were manhandled 2 Jerry D. & Joe S.
Jack S. & Bull 1 ½ Toyed with ½ Joe K. & Steven O
Dan B. & Mike S. 2 demolished 0 Gerald B. & Tim Albert
Rich S. & Jeff T. 0 desolated by 2 Tim A. & Julius W.
After play we all gather in The Clement, Albert, Badali room for refreshment and heavy hors d’oeuvres to discuss the days event. Chuckie once again was nowhere to be found he must have volunteered for the cleanup committee. He is definitely working his way into the Pit of Misery. A great time was held by all these guys really out did themselves everyone felt welcomed Thanks Guys. I just remember Chuckie was on the social committee on the balcony smoking cigars.
The Battle for High Garden was a tournament within a tournament in the:
Retired Educators division the team of Don Clement, Tim Albert, Julius Wooten and Joe Badali defeated the team of Fran Foster, Jerry Deviney, Chuckie Grindle and Irish.
Retired Military division the team of Joe Saul, Bennie Bacle, Dan Murphy and Roger Wardell defeated the team of Rick Stringer, Dan Brion, Dennis O’Meara and Mike Booth.
Wildings division the team of Lee Thompson, Gerald Bryant, Chuck Blair and Joe Kraft defeated the team of Tim Armstrong, Travis Blake, Mike Simms and Steven Orr.
California State Vulcans division the team of Eddie Timlin, Dennis Slavinsky, Dave Tisza and John Carasella defeated the team of John Kalocay, Jack Sharp, Rich Sidone and Jeff Timlin.
The overall championship was won by the California State Vulcan Team.
Everyone gather in the Wardell, Booth, O’Meara and Stringer room for cocktails and tall tales of the day’s event. Then it was off to Umberto’s to celebrate and tell more lies.
A weary group of golfers attack the course of Blackmoor. It was a good idea to play 4 man Florida Best Ball. The Team of Roger Wardell, Mike Booth, John Carasella and Eddie Timlin came in first. A tie between 3 teams was broken by using the score on the highest handicap holes and the winners were the teams of Lee Thompson, Julius Wooten, Jeff Timlin and Joe Badali, as well as, the team of Chuck Blair, Dan Brion, Fran Foster and Bennie Bacle. ON our return to Ocean Reef we gathered in the Blake, Thompson, Brion and Murphy room for drinks and games and activities before settling down for a long deserved rest.
As this very weary worn out group returned to Virginia Beach and other places, I can honestly say that everyone went home with a little jingle in their pockets ,especially Julius Wooten who stated “He never had a trip like this…………”.
For all those interested in a return trip next year Eddie has arranged the week of March 20-24, 2019.
